Our Computing Project

This is the Age of the Internet and we think everyone, regardless of their age, can benefit.  Thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery Fundwe have bought some laptop computers and a small team of Spilsby U3A volunteers is standing by to show you how you can become a Spilsby Web Wizard!

Family and friends spread out around the world?  They probably communicate and share photos using the internet.  Don’t be left out - learn how to do it!

Interested in family history, in sport or something else?  The internet brings the world’s newspapers and reference libraries to your living room.

Becoming less mobile?  Or just plain idle?  The internet brings all the supermarkets and High Street shops to you.  Do all your shopping from home and have it delivered to your door.

Planning a trip anywhere?  Compare prices, find timetables and book online - tickets holidays, everything.

Interested?  So you can see what you’re missing, we’ll give you a leisurely demonstration in the comfort and privacy of your own home, with no commitment.  We provide all the equipment and you’ll be surprised how little is needed and how neat and easy to use it is.  Sign up at our monthly U3A Meeting or talk to Colin Gray or David Stonehouse first if you prefer.  Don’t be afraid – sign up for a demonstration and broaden your horizons!

Would you like to be a Wizard?

We’ll help you learn the basics.  No computer?  No problem, we’ll lend you one while you learn.  No connection to the internet?  No problem, we’ll provide it while you learn.  No trailing wires, no black boxes, not even a phone line.  Once a week for a month we’ll have a 2 hour training session with no more than six beginners at a time.  Each will have a laptop to use and take home afterwards for practise with support from us by phone.

Should you then decide to buy a computer, we’ll advise on equipment and help you set it all up correctly.  And we’ll still be here for you once you’re up and running.

Wizard School Start of Term

We run Wizard classes as demand dictates.  There is a small charge to cover venue hire.

Want to be a Better Wizard?

For those already familiar with the basics but needing some help to improve your skills, we plan a series of teach-ins on topics you nominate.  We’ll post the programme in the Newsletter and ask you to sign up for the topics you’re interested in, or again talk to David first if you prefer.  Just let us know what you want and make the time to come along.
